Feelings & Rewards

Updated: Jan 3, 2019

An important part of my currency is the reliance on the user to be truthful. They can input data which will then be used to calculate ticks. This data is a combination of how they say they felt, and data collected by the physical artefact (TICKBod). At the end of the day, or after an event has finished, the user is prompted to register their feelings for that event. This is done through short dialouge the user ends Tickero, selection of an emoticon and music.

At this point, the app communicates with the TICKfob and the data collected throughout the day is transferred, allowing the algorithm to judge how the user has looked after their mental wellbeing that day.

Image shows user responding to a question asked by Tickue. Tickue understands what they have sent and presents a thumbs up. User is rewarded 5 TICK points for messaging and finally, the user needs to send a quick response emoticon. All of this is used at the end of the chat session to determine whether or not the user has made effort in understanding their well-being.

At this stage, the user is prompted to select how they felt during this event. This will be used by the algorithm to decide how many points the individual has gained. I believe that mental health is not something that can be discussed quantitatively, yes statistics about mental health exist however, it isn't possible for an individual to state how they feel through number. As a result, I have decided that part of the system to receive the user’s response qualitatively, abstractly through a series of emoticons. The other part will be through a conversation initiated by the system, Tickue, and the user.

I have now conducted some research in showing emotion through emoticons so that my system shows the emoticons that can be used most accurattely. I started by looking at this article. Previous research I conduccted on emticoncs and how they are used in apps can be viewed.

How do the rewards work?

A very important part of Tickero is the reward system. I will focus the rewards on services which are seen as positive ways to maange a persons well-being. For instance, exercise and spa days. These are just a couple things that could help someone. The way the reward system discount works is by services, such as a gym and spa, would consider a partnership with Tickero and therfore it's users.
